Renuka is a bright, ambitious girl from Vyasarpadi, Chennai. Her mother, a daily wager, is the sole breadwinner in a family of four. Renuka’s father cannot work due to health issues, and the family finds it difficult to make ends meet. Even in adversity, Renuka worked hard, scored excellent grades, and was the recipient of multiple curricular and co-curricular accolades. But soon it became difficult for her mother to sponsor her education. That’s where Bhumi’s Bring Smiles Scholarship was able to help Renuka. She became a recipient of Bhumi Scholarship program in her eighth grade. Her consistent determination and drive to build a better future for herself and her family secured her the Bhumi Scholarship for the past six years. Currently, she’s pursuing her first-year under-graduation in Bsc Computer Science at Ethiraj College for Women in Chennai. She is excited to make the most out of college life’s opportunities.

How It Works and Who is Eligible

According to a survey conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO) of the Indian government in 2021, one out of every eight students enrolled in a school or college drops out before completing their education, and over 62% of all dropouts occur at the school level.

Bhumi provides scholarships to students from underprivileged backgrounds through its Bring Smiles Program, thereby helping them access & continue their education. We enable a system that continuously supports our student beneficiaries through their schooling & Under graduation, ensuring access to opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods. Bhumi is striving to sponsor school and college education for as many children from underprivileged backgrounds as possible by providing them with scholarships.
